Gayanthi Gunawardhana, LL.M., CIPP/US
Libra Sentinel was founded by Gayanthi Gunawardhana, a lawyer working across data privacy, AI governance, technology contracts and emerging AI risk.
Gayanthi’s work is research-led and practice-facing. It focuses on how data, AI systems, platforms and digital technologies create legal, operational, contractual and governance risk for organizations, professionals and affected individuals.
Her work spans several connected streams: AI Governance, Global Data Privacy, AI Literacy, AI Contracts & Risk, AI Litigation & Disputes, AI Economics & Geopolitics, and AI Security Failures & Risk. These streams reflect her broader work on AI regulation, data protection, automated decision-making, transparency, platform harms, AI supply chains, technology contracting, evidence, accountability and emerging forms of digital injury.
Through Libra Sentinel, Gayanthi develops practical legal research, governance tools, training and advisory resources for lawyers, law firms, legal teams, businesses, AI teams, privacy professionals and professionals from adjacent fields.
Her advisory and training work focuses especially on AI governance, data protection compliance, automated decision-making technologies, transparency obligations, AI risk assessment, AI contracting, data annotation governance, tracking technologies and AI training data, platform and AI-related harms, and litigation-support work involving AI systems, evidence, accountability and data-driven injury.
She holds an LL.B., an LL.M. from the University of London, is admitted to the Sri Lankan Bar, and holds the IAPP CIPP/US certification.

A research-learning opportunity for students and early-career professionals who want serious exposur
Libra Sentinel’s research internship programme is for students and early-career professionals interested in understanding how AI systems behave in practice, how they are governed, and how legal, technical, commercial and societal risks develop across the AI supply chain.
This is a project-based research and learning opportunity, not a general staff role. Interns are not brought in to do administrative work or routine work “for” Libra Sentinel. They work on structured research projects connected to Libra Sentinel’s core streams, while learning from the founder’s research, practice experience, methods and ongoing work across AI governance, global data privacy, AI literacy, AI contracts, AI litigation and disputes, AI economics and geopolitics, and AI security failures and risk.
Projects may involve areas such as automated decision-making, AI transparency, data protection, AI contracting, platform harms, AI and copyright, web scraping, AI training data, data annotation governance, AI evidence, cybersecurity failures and emerging regulation.
Opportunities are selective, project-based and may be unpaid unless expressly stated otherwise. Applicants should be prepared to submit a CV, a writing sample and a short statement explaining their area of interest.
